New Year's Resolutions

2010 is finally here!! I'm so excited for this year because I am finally graduating high school and moving onto college in the fall. Well, as at the start of every New Year, everyone has resolutions, and I do too.

I have this blog....and in the past year and a half that I've had it, I have never used it as much as I have likely. I have actually rarely used it. My resolution this year is to  actually do what I have intended to do with this blog: use it to review all the books I read. My goal is to review at least one new book a week, plus highlight certain upcoming releases and authors. I have a list of books already all planned up to review and exciting upcoming releases for January.

My goal is to use this blog as frequently as I can, and actually do it this year, unlike last year. I will set aside time each week to review any of the books I have read that week.

Hopefully, I will be able to stick to my resolution and not break it this year. I hope that there will be 52 entries, if not more by 2011, and hopefully will have more people following my blog.

My first entry for the New Year besides this one will be reviewing 2009 and hopefully choosing my favorite reads, which might be difficult since I can't make up my mind yet. I hope that I can stick to this resolution unlike all others.

Books into Movies

I've been reading a lot of message board posts and blogs about books becoming movies. A lot of them are saying some books are becoming movies when they aren't. The Mortal Instruments, for one, isn't becoming a movie yet. The rights for that book haven't even been sold to a studio who could make it into a movie.

I don't think many people understand what it takes for a book to be made into a movie. First the rights to the book must be brought by a studio who is interested in possibly making the book into a movie or television sometime. If a studio buys the rights, they have a certain amount of time in which they can move forward and make the book into a film/television show. However, just because the rights have been brought and the book has be optioned to become a film does not nesscarily mean it will become one. It just means that the studio can either invest money to make it a film and begin work on possibly making into a film, by hiring screenwriters and producers and such. However, many books whose rights have been sold and optioned to become a film never make it past just that and never make it to screen. Many studios decide they won't make the book into a film/television show because it's to expensive or other reason and the rights will expire. For example, A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray was optioned to become a film, but it's not going to be a movie anytime soon. Libba sold the rights to a studio about 4 years ago and talked to producers and film makers, but when the rights expired for the second time this year the movie wasn't going to happen.

To read more about making films into movies here's two good blog posts from Scott Westerfeld and Libba Bray.

Everyone keeps saying Uglies is becoming a film, it may but at the moment it's only been optioned by a studio. Mortal Instruments hasn't even had it's right sold. Cassie has answered this question many times and you can read more about it here in here FAQ.

Wondrous Strange

Last night I finished rereading Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston for like the tenth time. I love this book. Yesterday, while on Harperteen.com I saw that she posted the cover for the next book, Darklight, on her blog. The cover is beautiful. I can't wait to read the next book, espically after I've seen the gorgeous cover. I can't wait to see what happens next with Sonny and Kelley. If you haven't read Wondrous Strange I recommend you go read it now, it's wonderful debut novel.

Wondrous Strange is a great novel for people who enjoy reading fantasy and paranormal novels. It's a great novel of faeries.

Here is a summary from School Library Journal: When Kelley moves to New York to pursue her dreams of theatrical success, she expects that her only encounters with mythical beings will be confined to the stage, in the Avalon Grande Theatre's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. All of that changes when she meets Sonny Flannery, who introduces Kelley to a world she never knew existed. A member of Auberon's Janus Guard, he patrols the portal (in Central Park) between the human and faerie worlds on the few dangerous nights when it opens and members of the Unseelie Court can pass into the mortal realm. He is strangely drawn to Kelley, and as he gets to know her, he begins to suspect that there is more to her history than either of them know. Through encounters with sirens, hellhounds, and kelpies, Kelley and Sonny are drawn irrevocably into a battle among the Fey. Despite the budding attraction between them, forces they can hardly understand seek to keep them apart. Set against the backdrop of present-day New York City, this enchanting first novel weaves together the worlds of theater and magic in a way that is sure to please fans of both. Readers will revel in the hints of Shakespeare within the text as they are introduced to faerie creatures both familiar and "wondrous strange."

Fans of Twilight, Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely will love and enjoy this novel very much. I can't wait to read more from Lesley Livingston.

Wow. It's been along time since i've posted on this. It's been crazy. I had to finish up  my junior year of high school which kept me busy most of the time, and then the summer came along and I've been working like crazy. Where has all my free time gone?!?!
Luckily for me, I was able to have some free time yesterday and got to go see the Jonas Brothers at the Izod center.

My sister got tickets the first day they were released and we were right next to the stage by the catwalk. We could literally touch the jonas brothers if not for security. I'm not a big fan of the jonas brothers, in fact i didn't really know many of their songs until my sister gave me their setlist which i learned the day before the concert, but suprisingly the concert was really good and i had a good time. One things for sure, the Jonas Brothers do know how to give a good show. By the time the jonas brothers came on after their opening acts i was screaming like a fangirl and singing along with everyone else. It was such a good show and I loved our seats because we were sooo close.
Here's Kevin right in front of us on the stage. He was always on our side of the stage which was awesome. We also saw his fiance danielle at the concert too. Are seats were amazing and I'm so glad my sister got them. People would die to have our spots.

Nick and Kevin were by us the most. Joe only came on our side once or twice but he ran around the entire stage a bunch. I really really liked the concert shockingly. My favorite part was....
when we got foamed!! During Live to Party Joe and Kevin go above the audience a spray foam at the crowd. It was awesome we got foamed a couple times since we were right next to the stage. Overall it was a very good night, except for the ride how which took 2 hours when it should take 30 mins thanks to a road being closed.

Wwll, since my last post I've read a ton more books, not as much as I usually do because school kept me really busy but still a bunch. The books I've read:

  20. Bloodhoud  by Tamora Pierce (loved)
  21. Being Nikki by Meg Cabot
  22. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (amazing, but of course it's amazing it's an american classic)
  23. Swoon by Nina Malkin (I'm offically in love with Sin)
  24. Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson (brillant, loved it)
  25. Carpe Corpus by Rachel Caine (yay!! liked the end of that story arc)

  36. Hunted by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast (delayed reading this since it came out in march because the wait to october would have been to long but i finally decided to give in a just read it)
These are the books i've read so far but i'm also currently reading:
  • Blue Moon by Alyson Noel
  • What is the What by Dave Eggers
  • Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
  • The Key by Marianne Curley
  • Kiss of Life by Daniel Waters (forgot where i put it and recently refound it after i brought it when it was released)
Well, now after coming home for Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince, which was good but not great, but not horrible either, I must finish doing laundry so I have clothes to pack to go to my aunts tonight since all my clothes are dirty.

During the month of January, I read a bunch of books. 12 books to be exact.

Book 1: The Musican's Daughter by Susanne Dunlap
Musician's Daughter by Susanne Dunlap: Book Cover
This book was interesting. It starts off on Christmas Eve and Theresa Maria's father is brought home murdered by his musician friends. Theresea is determinded to figure out who killed her father, but the truth is more complicated then she thinks. This book got a bit dull at times and had a lot to do with politics in Vienna in the 18th centuries. I got confused once or twice and bored too sometimes but i overall liked the book. I didn't like the ending because it keep of just ended and didn't really seem realistic. I don't really have a lot to say about this book though. It was a good book though.

Book 2: Need by Carrie Jones
Need by Carrie Jones: Book Cover
I really enjoyed this book. Zara moves to Maine after her stepfather's death to live with her grandmother to be "safe". Shes being stalked by this guy who she saw both in Maine and at her old house. Turns out he's not human, but pixie and he's after Zara. I loved the chapter titles of this book, they were all different phobia names because the main character has an obsession with phobias. This book was really good and it fits into the fairy genre well. Zara world ends up upside down when she moves to main and she learns who she really is. The only thing i didn't like about this book was some things happened way to quickly, like when Zara learns the guy who trailing her is a pixie and then all her friends believe it right away and she believes right away was just kind of akward, but that was like the only time. I l iked th plot and all the characters and how it all built up to the ending and all the secrets surronding Zara were revealed. I hope Carrie Jones writes more books because this book was really reallly good.

Book 3: What I Saw and How I Lied by Judy Blundell
What I Saw and How I Lied by Judy Blundell: Book Cover
This book was an interesting quick read. I felt really bad for the main character because her life becomes ruined. When Evie's step father returns home from WWII, things are different. Evie and her family decide to go to Palm Springs for a vacation, but things are peaceful there at all. When a friend of the family ends up dead, Evie's family to blame. Evie's world gets turn upside down in Palm springs. It was a really good book. AT the end i actually thought Evie was gonna tell the truth but then I remember the title was "how i lied".

Book 4: Lord of Misrule by Rachel Caine
Lord of Misrule (The Morganville Vampires Series #5) by Rachel Caine: Book Cover
I've been waiting for this book since June 3rd of 2008. Another great book in the morganville vampire series. SOOO many things happend in this book that will change Morganville forever. I don't want to say to much about this book because if i do i will give away everything. The excerpt at the end of the book from Carpe Corpus was torture though and makes me want it to be June now!

Book 5: A Little Friendly Advice  by Siobhan Vivian
A Little Friendly Advice by Siobhan Vivian: Book Cover
This book took me awhile to read because it took awhile to get into it. It was an okay book. On Ruby's sixteen birthday, her dad suddenly turns about after leaving her and her mother when se was younger. Ruby doesn't want anything to do with him, instead she wants to hang out with her friends. But Ruby discovers her friends aren't as truthful as she thought and that what happen in the past with her wasn't what se thought had happend either.

Book 6: Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George
Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica George: Book Cover
I enjoyed this retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses. This book was mostly told from the point of view of Galen, a young soldier who works at the palace where Twelve Sisters hae been forced to dance for the King Under Stone to complete a promise made by their mother. This was an interesting new retelling and i really enjoyed it. I read it within a night and really enjoyed it.

Book 7: Beloved by Toni Morrison
Beloved by Toni Morrison: Book Cover
I had to read this book for my AP Literature class, and i'm really glad we had to. This was an amazing book. Toni Morrison is a literary genius. This story dealt with the impact of slavery and the past and was beautifully written. I could go on and write a ton about this book, which i will probably do on my midterm tomorrow. Everyone should read this book because it is such a beautiful piece of literature.

Book 8: North of Beautiful by Justina Cen Headly
North of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley: Book Cover
This was a beautifully written book about finding your self and seeing your inner beauty. Terra seems like a girl who has everything, until you see the port-stain birthmark on her face. After a car accident, she meets Jacob and American-Asian adoptee. They book are looking to find who they truly are and become comfortable with themselve. This book was really good. It was the first book i've read by this author but i really enjoyed it an will look forward to any other books she has written.

Book 9: Perfect Chemistry by simone elkeles

Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles: Book Cover
One of those star crossed lovers books. Brittany has the perfect life and is popular, while Alex is a gang member from the other side of town. After being paired together in Chemistry, they begin to have feelings for each other and see that they are not the person they pretend to be in front of everyone else. It was good book. I enjoyed it. Was kind of predictable though, but i still liked it.

Book 10: The Fetch by Laura Whitcomb
The Fetch by Laura Whitcomb: Book Cover
This was a very interesting book. Very unique. Calder is a Fetch, a person who attends the dead  and escorts their sould to heaven. When he takes over Rasputin's body in order to find his "Glory". However, when he cross over, a major rupture occurs in the spirit world. To right his mistake Calder along with Anastasia and Alexis Romanov must search for Calder's Fetch key to restore order in the universe. It took me awhile to get into the book but it was an interesting book with a new idea.

Book 11: Envy by Anna Godbersen
Envy (Luxe Series #3) by Anna Godbersen: Book Cover
I've been waiting for this since June. I just have to say I have to copies currently because the UPS has failed to deliever this book even though it shiped on Tuesday, so I had to go out and get it at Barnes and Nobles, but thank god i did. This one was another good book in the series. I felt it was predictable at times, but that is one reason i like this series. So many thinks happen, and so many things get ruined, but hopefully will get set right soon. I can't wait for Splendor the final book in the series soon. I felt so bad for Henry and Diana because everything just kept going wrong for them. Penelope became he like worse and more controlling (if that's possible) then in Envy. I can't wait for the conclusion of this capitavaiting series.

Book 12: Beautiful Americans by Lucy Silag

Beautiful Americans by Lucy Silag: Book Cover
This was a beautiful debut novel from Lucy Silag. I finished it last night and couldn't finish it fast enough. I loved this book. It's the first in the series and now i can't wait for the next book to come. I want to figure out everyone secrets and see what happens next to the four main characters: Alex, Olivia, Zach and PJ. The book was very well written and I like the alternating points of view between the four main characters. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in the series

That's all the NEW books I read in January. I'm looking forward to reading a lot more exciting new books in Febuary. Books i'm hoping to read in Febuary:
-Evermore by Alison Noel
-Fade by Lisa McMann
-Far from You by Lisa Scroeder
-Paradise Lost by Kate Brian
-Two girls of Gettysburg by lisa Klein
-Exposed by Susan Vaught
-Sun and moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George

Okay. So this is my first entry. YAY! I've been meaning to make a livejournal for awhile now, but I've been to lazy to do it. Sad. But, now I have one so now I don't need to worry about creating one.

A little about myself. I'm sixteen years old, almost seventeen and I love to read. I read way to much. Since January '08, I have already read more than 100 new books this year, not counting all the books I have reread this year which was a lot to. My friends use me as my library. They are even insisting I make them library cards.

Reading is my favorite thing to do, besides acting. I read for my own pleasure, at least two hours every night. I don't have a favorite genre of books, but I do prefer fiction over nonfiction. I'll read any genre. If a book sounds interesting, I'll read it. I spend hours on barnes and noble searching for books, and I count down the days until books come out. My library knows me very well since I'm always there and requesting books.

There are a ton of authors I love and a ton of book series I adore.
